Confirm the Time Zone Before Accepting a Remote Interview Slot

The invitation says 10:00, and you add it to your diary. Then you notice that the recruiter is in another country. A short clarification now is much easier than discovering the difference when the interview panel is already waiting.

Confirm the full date, the organiser’s time zone and the time displayed in your own calendar. Avoid relying on an informal abbreviation that can have more than one meaning. A city-based time zone or an explicit offset tied to the interview date is more useful.

Check the actual invitation

A time written in the body of an email and a calendar event can disagree. Compare them before accepting. If the message has been forwarded, ask whether you have the latest invitation rather than copying the earlier sender’s local time.

For an invented example, your calendar shows 15:00 while the recruiter’s email says 09:00. That difference might be a correct conversion. It might also be a wrongly created event. Do not “fix” the calendar by intuition; ask the recruiter to confirm the intended time in both locations.

Use a brief message: “My calendar displays the interview on 12 November at 15:00 in my local zone. Could you confirm that this matches the panel’s intended slot?” Include your location or zone so the question can be answered directly.

Allow for a changed location

If you will travel before the interview, check the calendar from the location where you will actually join. Device settings can change the displayed local time. A screenshot taken before travel may preserve an old display rather than the time you should use on the day.

Also check whether a seasonal clock change occurs between arranging and attending. Do not assume that two cities retain the same difference throughout the year.

  • Keep one current calendar invitation.
  • Save the joining link and a contact for connection problems.
  • Block preparation time separately from the interview itself.
  • Recheck the displayed date as well as the hour.

Once the time is confirmed, stop maintaining several competing handwritten conversions. Keep the confirmed message with the invitation and use a single current reminder. This removes an avoidable scheduling problem so you can spend your attention on the conversation.
