Azima Jalal, a 28-year-old resident of Royton, Oldham, was recorded exceeding speed limits on May 6 of last year along the A62 Oldham Road in Ancoats. In an alarming display of disregard for traffic laws, she drove at a staggering 76 miles per hour in a zone clearly marked for a maximum of only 30 mph. But that wasn’t the end of her reckless driving; just 38 minutes later, Jalal was photographed again, this time cruising at 61 mph in the opposite direction, also in her Volkswagen.
Following these infractions, she faced serious repercussions when she appeared in court on January 28. The sentence was not light. Jalal was handed a total fine of £1,094, which included a £438 victim surcharge and an additional £120 in court costs. Furthermore, her driving privileges took a hit with six points added to her license, and she now faces a six-month ban from driving altogether.
This instance is part of a broader initiative known as Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Vision Zero program, which aims to eradicate road fatalities and serious injuries by the year 2040.
