Norwich Cathedral to Host a Shakespearean Masterpiece: Othello in 2026
Prepare for a captivating theatrical experience this summer as the renowned Shakespearean tragedy, Othello, takes center stage at Norwich Cathedral. On July 3rd and 4th, the Cloister will transform into a captivating performance venue, bringing Shakespeare's gripping story to life.
The Very Revd Dr Andrew Braddock, Dean of Norwich, expresses his enthusiasm, "We're thrilled to welcome The Lord Chamberlain’s Men back to Norwich Cathedral's Cloister for this year's Shakespeare Festival. Their productions are always exceptional, and we're eager to witness their interpretation of Othello."
Othello, a tale of deception, jealousy, and misplaced trust, is one of Shakespeare's most gripping and tragic narratives. The Lord Chamberlain’s Men will present the play with a traditional flair, featuring an all-male cast, authentic Elizabethan costumes, and live music, transporting the audience back in time.
This will be the company's first time performing Othello, marking a special occasion in their 22nd anniversary year. Artistic director Peter Stickney, a native of Saxlingham Nethergate, shares his excitement, "Performing in the Cathedral's stunning surroundings is always a highlight for us. This year's Othello is a thrilling ride, packed with twists and turns, and I can't wait for audiences to experience its compelling, horrifying, and electrifying nature."
Tickets are priced at £24, including a booking fee, and are available via the Norwich Cathedral website (www.cathedral.org.uk/shakespeare). Performances will commence at 7 pm, with doors opening at 6 pm. Audiences are encouraged to arrive early to immerse themselves in the venue's ambiance and enjoy refreshments from Bread Source.
