Le Mans 24H Hour 16: Cadillac Leads, Toyota & BMW Duel for P2! (2026)

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a thrilling spectacle, and the latest edition was no exception. As the race reached the 16th hour, the #12 Cadillac Hertz Team Jota pulled away with a commanding lead, leaving Toyota and BMW in a fierce battle for second place. However, the race took an unexpected turn when the #38 Cadillac suffered a power steering issue, forcing it to make unscheduled pit stops and ultimately retire. This setback handed the #8 Toyota TR010 Hybrid a precious buffer, as they recovered from a fraught night to reclaim second place. The #20 BMW M Hybrid V8, driven by Sheldon van der Linde, was closing in on the Kiwi at 8 am local time in France, adding further intrigue to the race. The #7 Toyota, with Nyck de Vries at the wheel, ran fourth, while the factory #51 Ferrari led the two Alpine A424s. Wayne Taylor Racing, however, faced penalties for Full Course Yellow interventions, leaving the #101 Cadillac almost three minutes down on the leaders in eighth place. The #83 AF Corse Ferrari ran ninth, and the #007 Aston Martin completed the top 10. The race took another twist when Genesis made its Le Mans debut, hitting problems with the #19 GMR-001 stopping twice on track, triggering a Full Course Yellow on the first occasion. In LMP2, the #30 Duqueine Oreca 07 solidified its lead in the early hours, with Richard Verschoor almost 90 seconds clear of the two Inter Europol cars. Several LMP2 cars suffered on-track moments, including Enzo Trulli beaching the Algarve Pro Oreca at Mulsanne and Dane Cameron spinning the AO by TF car at Indianapolis. Porsche GTP star Kevin Estre also hit the barriers at the Indianapolis after running over the kerbs in the #14 TDS Oreca just minutes before the end of the 16th hour. In LMGT3, the #33 TF Sport Corvette Z06 GT3.R moved into the front during the night, with factory GM driver Nicky Catsburg stretching out a lead of over 90 seconds. The #78 ASP Lexus RC F GT3 is Corvette’s closest challenger in second, with the pole-sitting #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 dropping to third place during the night. Defending champion Manthey Porsche holds fourth place, with Ayhancan Guven holding fourth in the #91 911 GT3 R. The #33 TF Sport Corvette Z06 GT3.R’s dominance in LMGT3 is a testament to the team's prowess, and the battle for second place between the #78 ASP Lexus RC F GT3 and the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 adds further excitement to the race. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a showcase of endurance, strategy, and sheer determination, and this year's edition has been a thrilling display of all three.
