Bold statement: Peace and security in the North Rift rely on the unwavering dedication and teamwork of our troops, and this visit highlights that reality in a clear, actionable way. But here's where it gets controversial: is praise alone enough to sustain morale, or do we also need tangible changes in welfare and resources? Let’s dive in.
The Commander of the Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter, recently met with personnel deployed at the Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU) Multi-Agency Command Centre (MACC) Headquarters in Chemolingot, Baringo County. His visit came as the festive season approaches, carrying messages of goodwill and a reminder of the mission’s importance: restoring and maintaining peace and security in the North Rift region.
During the engagement, Lt Gen Ketter toured the OMU MACC Headquarters and received briefings that covered ongoing operations, evolving security trends, and the interagency coordination mechanisms that support the mission. He spoke with officers and service members from the Kenya Defence Forces and partner security agencies, congratulating them on the cohesion and professionalism they’ve demonstrated amid demanding operating conditions.
In addressing the troops, the Army Commander lauded their resilience, discipline, and duty, emphasizing that their concerted efforts have led to notable improvements in security and public confidence in the area. He underscored the importance of maintaining professionalism, discipline, and respect for civil authority while carrying out assigned tasks.
“Your commitment and sacrifice in safeguarding our nation, especially within this operational environment, are highly commendable. As we near the festive season, stay focused, vigilant, and united in purpose as you continue to fulfill your mandate,” Lt Gen Ketter stated.
Lt Gen Ketter conveyed festive greetings from the Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, and the broader Kenya Defence Forces leadership. He reaffirmed that troop welfare remains a priority and reassured them of continued support to boost operational effectiveness and living conditions. He also urged heightened alertness during the holiday period, highlighting that sustained vigilance is crucial to deter emerging security threats.
The visit was attended by senior officers and personnel from the KDF and partner security agencies deployed to the OMU theatre.
