Disney's Hollywood Studios: A Monstrous Makeover! MuppetVision Theater's Transformation (2026)

Exciting transformations are taking place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, specifically as the MuppetVision Theater and adjacent restrooms undergo a makeover for the new Monstropolis area inspired by Monsters, Inc. This development is not just a simple facelift; it's a complete reimagining of beloved attractions that fans have cherished for years.

Let's start with the MuppetVision 3D Theater. Recent updates reveal that the exterior markings from when bricks and windowsills were taken off the building have been cleaned up, showcasing a fresh canvas for the upcoming changes. In earlier phases of construction, the theater's marquee and awnings were removed, paving the way for an entirely new marquee that will soon grace the entrance.

On the morning of February 4, we witnessed crew members diligently working on one of the prominent towers of the building, which houses the theater itself. This section, along with the adjoining brick facade that serves as the entrance and queue area, is undergoing significant alterations. Two lifts were seen in action, with workers carefully applying white tarps around the tower to protect it during renovations.

Furthermore, the paneling from the back of the tower has been stripped away, exposing the steel framework beneath. This design element aligns with the concept art for Monstropolis, though it is anticipated that the towers will be modified further to align with the quirky, monstrous aesthetic that defines the new area. The concept illustrations depict vibrant green trims and monster-themed decorations adorning the theater, alongside new faux windows that evoke the feeling of the structure being nestled among an apartment complex.

Disney has earmarked a substantial budget of $22.4 million for this renovation (you can read more about it in detail on WDW News Today). However, the specifics regarding what show will replace the beloved MuppetVision 3D experience remain under wraps, leaving fans eager for announcements.

Moving on to the Gonzo’s Royal Flush restrooms, changes are also underway. Following the removal of prop pipes that once decorated the facade, crews have removed some fascia from the edge of the roof, now covered with secured tarps over the exposed areas. Markings in the form of lines and red Xs have been painted on the building, indicating where further modifications will occur. Some sections of the exterior brick have been dismantled, and certain wall strips are now draped with tarps, while one of the "windows" appears to be painted metallic, contributing to the whimsical transformation.

As part of the Monstropolis overhaul, this restroom facility is slated for renovation and will continue to serve park guests.

In addition to these changes, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano is set to be rebranded as Harryhausen’s, paying homage to Monsters, Inc. Recent filings for a fire safety permit indicate progress towards this transition. Similarly, PizzeRizzo will be renovated to establish a new quick-service dining option that fits within the Monstropolis theme.

Across the park, another significant shift looms: the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is preparing to close its doors to make way for a fresh concept titled Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. Multiple permits have already been submitted for this exciting reimagining.

Amidst these thrilling developments at Disney's Hollywood Studios, fans can look forward to a revival special of The Muppet Show premiering today, February 4. This highly anticipated episode has received rave reviews, boasting a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, further igniting excitement around the Muppets' legacy.
