Drivers in Bromley Cross, are you aware of the speeds being clocked? Speed cameras have been installed, and the results are eye-opening. Some drivers have been caught hurtling along at a staggering 70 mph! That's right, in an area where the speed limit is typically 40 mph or less.
This initiative is part of a larger plan to address speeding on high-risk roads. One driver was even caught doing 50 mph in a 40 mph zone. The local councilors are working hand-in-hand with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to make the roads safer, especially in built-up areas.
Cllr Nadim Muslim emphasized the residents' concerns and the commitment to taking action. The goal is to identify persistent speeders, with the top 10 offenders being ranked each month.
But here's where it gets controversial... Instead of immediate fines, the police will visit the top offenders' homes to issue warnings. If caught again, these drivers will face increased scrutiny from local officers and the Roads Policing Unit.
Cllr Samantha Connor clarified that this isn't a money-making scheme but a genuine effort to enhance safety for everyone. The cameras can be moved based on safety needs, similar to those on the A58 ring road.
Cllr Amy Cowen expressed their determination to curb speeding, highlighting the collaboration with GMP. She believes this initiative will make a significant difference.
